With everything going on in the world lately, it can feel overwhelming and stressful at times. Sometimes you just need to get away from it all and enjoy some peace and simplicity. One great way to do that is by taking a camping trip out in nature, away from the busyness of everyday life.

My friend and I decided to go on a weekend camping trip to clear our heads. We packed up her SUV on Friday after work with our tent, sleeping bags, cooler, and other camping gear and headed out to the countryside. Driving on the backroads with the windows down, breathing in the fresh air was so relaxing.

We found a nice campsite near a lake that wasn’t too crowded with other campers. After setting up our tent and folding chairs, we took a walk around the area to enjoy the scenery. Lush green trees and hills surrounded the lake, with mountains rising in the background. The only sounds were birds chirping and the gentle lapping of water on the shore. It was so serene and quiet compared to the city.

As the sun started to set, we got a fire going in the firepit to take the chill off the evening air. We cooked a simple dinner of hot dogs and beans over the fire, then made s’mores for dessert. Making s’mores with melted chocolate and toasted marshmallows is one of the best parts of camping!

After cleaning up from dinner, we lit some citronella candles to help keep the bugs away. Citronella candles have a nice crisp scent that goes perfectly with being outdoors. We set the candles around our camping chairs and settled in to gaze at the starry night sky.

Out in the country, so far from any big cities, the stars were absolutely magnificent. We pointed out constellations to each other and admired how clearly we could see the Milky Way streaking across the sky. It was crazy to think about how many stars were up there that we couldn’t normally see from home.

Sitting together in the stillness and flickering candlelight, we talked about how small and connected everything is. All the stress of daily life seemed to just melt away. After a while we were both starting to feel sleepy from the fresh air and went in the tent to get some rest.

The next morning, I awoke to birdsong and sunlight streaming in through the tent mesh. We made bacon and eggs over the fire for breakfast before packing up to head home. As we drove away, I felt completely recharged and at peace. Getting back to basics really has a way of resetting your mindset.

A simple camping trip with no electronics or distractions can do wonders for clearing your head. Making a little fire, preparing food together, and admiring breathtaking natural views are the perfect ingredients for washing away stress. I’m so glad my friend and I took the time to enjoy the candlelit countryside under the stars. I can’t wait for our next camping trip!
