As I stepped off the plane into the crisp, clean air of Alaska, I took a deep breath. I had been looking forward to this trip for months. I was here to meet up with my best friend Susan for a fun getaway weekend filled with adventures.
Susan picked me up from the airport and we headed to her cabin in the woods. She told me she had planned a full itinerary of activities for us. First up was hiking through the forests surrounding her property. The fresh pine scent was invigorating. That night, Susan revealed the big surprise she had been hinting at – we were going to make our own scented candles!
The next morning, we gathered supplies – wax, wicks, essential oils, and glass jars. Susan had come prepared with everything we needed. We set up a little candle-making station outside on her porch.
First, we put wax in a pot to melt it down. Susan said we could make the candles any scent we liked by adding essential oils. We opened the bottles one by one, smelling the vibrant scents of lemon, lavender, peppermint and more. I decided on a refreshing lemony candle while Susan went for a woodsy pine scent.
Once the wax was melted, we carefully poured it into the jars. The wax turned from cloudy to clear as it cooled. Next, we added wicks. Susan showed me how to center the wick and secure it straight.
As our candles set up, we enjoyed the tranquility of Susan’s cabin. We sipped hot cocoa on the porch as light snowflakes started to fall. The final step was adding essential oils once the candles had hardened completely. We dropped oils into the center of the wax and watched them diffuse throughout, turning the clear wax into rich colors.
After all our hard work, we were thrilled to light our finished candles. The cozy scents of lemon and pine filled the cabin. I loved watching the flame flicker against the snowy backdrop outside the windows. It was so serene.
The weekend flew by too quickly. Before I knew it, it was time to fly home. Susan boxed up my lemon candle so I could take it with me. Lighting it at home always takes me right back to that lovely cabin in the Alaskan wilderness.
This trip was an amazing getaway filled with the awe-inspiring natural beauty of Alaska. Getting to explore the forests, craft candles, and reconnect with my friend made it unforgettable. The scented candle is now a cherished memento that captures the essence of this awesome adventure. Every time I smell the lovely lemon scent, memories come flooding back. It was a trip I’ll always think back on fondly.
